* To whom correspondence should be addressed. The cognitive deficits in schizophrenia are discussed in terms of the other symptoms of the disorder, as well as according to a translational approach that involves using similar or analogous tests for humans and experimental animals. This approach, it is argued, will enable the testing of novel drugs and the development of adequate etiological models of schizophrenia.
